I didn't know what it was until I looked very closely. It was a new insect climbing out of its old cracked open shell. This broken case gave way to a brand new life.
The song "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan has a verse that says:
"May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung"
-- build your ladder and take every step to get where you want to go. You just can't get away with feeling like the world owes you anything.
But. Sometimes those rungs are broken and you have to take time to fix them. And you might need a professional carpenter.
Demonstrating on an image of a bull in motion he took a tumble and smashed his just formed legs. Sculptor Kathe Umlauf wasn't phased. She said that sometimes accidents make you stop and really look. She made some changes and the bull was better than before. Beautiful.
This bent over and re-sprouted tree is near an old Iroquois trading route. It is said that they marked their routes by bending over a sapling till it touched the ground. It would form an arch and re-sprout from the point of contact. Some think this tree may be an aged marker. Not too sure about that. It's a beautiful thought though.
